I stopped a couple of months ago using Allen Carr's easy way to stop smoking -
Literary genius it isn't, and it certainly doesn't hit you with the traditional 'you'll get cancer' horror stories but what it does do is gradually alter your perception of cigarettes. It's sort of based on positive reinforcement with alot of 'duh how could I be so damn stupid'.
I'd stopped a couple of times before - the longest for 6 months when my mum died of cancer but that didn't stop me from starting again when the going got tough. I still smoke as much dope as I did before but I haven't touched a cigarette for two months and haven't even considered it when bored which is the toughest time for me. This has by far been my easiest and most successful stopping attempt.
Try it, thousands over here have used it successfully and what do you have to lose? It's about the price of two packets of marlboro, in fact less than that when you look at what we pay for ciggies over here.

I feel for you, I have been out since I was 18 and found Xmas to be the loneliest time of year, I didn't have anyone at all to spend it with and got the holiday blues big time. It really underlines the loss of your whole social structure and that family feeling you get as part of the congregation, even if you know it's all shallow.
If I were you I'd concentrate on enjoying the time you have with your boys and show them that you don't need a stupid religion to be good people, spending the day with other ex dubs is a good plan too cos it's nice to be around people who understand.
In time your guy's parents will come around, although I know it feels like to be banging your head against a brick wall

Beards, can someone explain?

i was df'd in '90 just as this was becoming a big deal and at the time i thought it was completely rediculous what with jesus probably having a beard.
it was one of the many things that led me to seeing that the gb make arbitrary rules and that the organisation has more to do with control than religion.
